Antihemorrhoidal agents
?@Posterisan (Coli-antigen ointment)
?AProctosedyl (HydrocortisonelFradiomycin sulfate/Dibucaine HCI suppository)
?BNeriproct (Diflucortolone valerate/Lidocaine HCI suppository)
These products are intended to achieve local analgesia and suppression of local inflammation. Product ?@ is composed of a suspension of killed E. coli cells; it prevents local infection and promotes wound healing. Products ?A and ?B contain analgesics and corticosteroids. Product ?Aalso contains an antibiotic.
Indications: Symptoms associated with hemorrhoids and anal fissure (hemorrhage, pain, swelling, and itching). Product ?@ is also indicated for periproctal eczema and dermatitis.
Dosage: ?@ Once to 3 times daily, apply to the periproctal region or infuse into the anus. ?A & ?B One suppository is inserted into the anus after defecation or at bedtime.
Precautions: Use of these products should be discontinued if itching or swelling occurs.
Storage: In a cool place. Expiry date: B -- 2 years.

 

Ophthalmic preparations
Antibiotics for ophthalmic use
?@Terramycin (Oxytetracycline eye ointment 0.5%)
?ATarivid (Ofloxacin eye ointment 0.3%)
Product ?@ is active against Staphylococcus species, Streptococcus species, F. coli, Gonococcus, and Chlamydia trachomatis (the organism which causes trachoma). For further details on Product ?A, see (P.30) the information on the oral preparation of ofloxacin.
Indications: Blepharitis, dacryocystitis, hordeolum, conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer, and corneal and conjunctival injuries.
Dosage: ?@ Apply once to several times daily. ?A Apply 3 times daily.
Precautions: Use of these products should be discontinued it itching, redness, or swelling occurs.
Storage: At room temperature. Expiry date: ?@ 2 years.

 

?@Tarivid (Otloxacin ophthalmic solution 0.3%)
?ASiseptin (Sisomicin sulfate ophthalmic solution 0.3%)
See the page (P.31) on the oral preparation of ofloxacin for further details about Product ?@ Product ?A is effective against infection caused by Staphylococcus species, Streptococcus species, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Indications: Blepharitis, hordeolum, dacryocystitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer, and corneal and conjunctival injuries.
Dosage: ?@ & ?A Apply at a dose of 1-2 drops 3-4 times daily.
Precautions: These products may cause local injection, pain, foreign body sensation, and lacrimation.
Storage: ?@ At room temperature. (2 Protected from light at room temperature.

 

Corticosteroids for ophthalmic use
Flumetholon (Fluorometholone ophthalmic solution 0.02%)
This product can only be carried on board at the risk of the owner of the ship. The drug may only be used under the direction of health care professionals (through radio medical Communications). Fluorometholone suppresses acute inflammatory reactions, including edema, capillary dilation, and capillary angiogenesis.
Indiostions: Blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and scleritis.
Dosage: Apply 1-2 drops from 2-4 times daily. Shake the eye dropper well before each dose.
Precautions: 1. The drug should not be administered to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to it or those with corneal ulcer, viral keratoconjunctivitis, or suppurative eye disease.
2. Chronic use of this drug should be avoided.
Storage: At room temperature.

 

Local anesthetics for ophthalmic use
?@Xylocaine (Lidocaine HCI solution for ophthalmic use 0.4%)
?ABenoxil (Oxybuprocaine HCI solution for ophthalmic use 0.4%)
These drugs cause local anesthesia of the corneal surface. An anesthetic effect is usually obtained at 5-10 minutes after application. Subsequent treatment should only be commenced after adequate anesthesia is obtained.
Lndication: Removal of a corneal foreign body.
Dosage: ?@ & ?A Apply several drops. Dosing should be repeated until adequate anesthesia is obtained. While applying these drugs, care should be taken to avoid contamination of the eye dropper.
Precautions: These drugs may cause local injection, a foreign body sensation, and swelling.
Storage: Protected from light at room temperature.
